If the Sun is a symbol of the region’s assets for its touristic and economic development, the Sun is above all the source of life, of light and an inhexhaustible source of energy. It also is the celestial body that represents time, seasons, rythms, cycles and eclipses. Its path in the sky has allowed men to measure time, its projected shadow has marked our space.
The artist MARC-ANDRÉ 2 FIGUERES created a solar clock, reuniting in one concept, the ancestral knowledge and the current issues of our time. He also reminds us the presence of these archaic clocks, often forgotten, in a majority of our villages.
Taking the measure of time, highlighting it, optimizing it, without consuming energy, without impacting environnement, isn’t it our century main topical subject ?
MARC-ANDRÉ 2 FIGUERES, using high-tech (digital productions, laser cutting) and solar energy, concentrates in this object all the issues raised by renewable energies and sustainable development. Meanwhile, the visual artist also questions our way of contemplating the world, and the duality that exists within any thing (2-ism). Effectively, the solar clock uses light, whereas it is the shadow that marks time.
Only solar time is an immutable value.
Only art can reveal it.
Artwork achieved in partnership with Conseil Général des Pyrénées Orientales.
